Mekong Plastics Innovation Alliance

The Mekong Plastics Innovation Alliance is a collaborative effort aimed at achieving long-term, systemic change in the fight against plastic waste by taking a regional approach. Recognising that plastic pollution is a shared challenge, the Alliance operates across multiple countries in Southeast Asia, with established programs in Thailand and Vietnam, and emerging chapters in Cambodia and Laos. By fostering regional cooperation, the Alliance aims to drive impactful solutions that protect waterways and the ocean from plastic pollution.

The Indo-Pacific Plastics Innovation Network (IPPIN) plays a crucial role within the Alliance, providing platforms for collaboration and innovation. IPPIN supports entrepreneurs and researchers in transforming scientific and technological advancements into real-world solutions to tackle plastic waste. Through IPPIN’s efforts, emerging innovators from the Mekong subregion will receive training, mentoring, and resources to develop scalable solutions that address the pressing issue of plastic pollution.

Australia’s commitment to the Mekong subregion is underscored by the Mekong Australia Partnership, which prioritises addressing environmental challenges such as plastic pollution.
